Thinkwise Credit Union to receive San Bernardino County Education Medal of Honor

San Bernardino, CA:  On April 28, 2016, Thinkwise Credit Union received the San Bernardino County Education Medal of Honor.  The award presented by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, Ted Alejandre, is for being Partners in Education.

As a member-owned cooperative, Thinkwise Credit Union CEO, Kevin Posey said, “None of these programs are possible for the students in our community without their ownership, so big thanks are due to our members.”  He continued, “Supporting the education community is core to Thinkwise as a community financial institution.  This award shows our efforts are helping and appreciated.”

The criteria for the Partners in Education category, is to create awareness for education throughout the community, make an impact and lasting contribution, to serve as a positive role model, and provide support for education.  This year, 35 nominees in six categories were announced to compete for the 25th annual awards.  Thinkwise was nominated by the Superintendent of San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD), Dr. Dale Marsden.

“I’d like to thank Dr. Marsden for nominating us for this prestigious award,” Posey added.  “Our Board of Directors are so supportive of our efforts to engage our community schools, and our entire staff are always willing to offer their time and energy to our community events.”

Since the start of the 2013 school year, Thinkwise has adopted three elementary schools within SBCUSD, and is looking to increase that total in the near future, possibly a high school or middle school.  The adopted school program is a joint effort between the school district and the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce.

Along with adopting schools, Thinkwise Credit Union has hosted numerous Bite of Reality financial simulations for high school students throughout SBCUSD.  Thinkwise staff members have participated in Principal for a day events, several career days, helped raise funds for student scholarships, and various other ventures in order to play their part as both financial and education advocates.

The Education Medal of Honor program is sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, the County School Boards Association, and the County Communicators Network.  School public relations professionals in Riverside County judged his year’s entries.
