Principal For A Day

San Bernardino School Employees Federal Credit Union (SBSEFCU) is pleased to have participated in Principal for a day program at Dr. Mildred D. Henry Elementary school on February 28, 2014. Heri “Eddie” Garcia, V.P. of Operations at SBSEFCU, took the honor of Principal and further enhanced SBSEFCU’s role with San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD).

“San Bernardino has some of the brightest, most motivated students, and I was honored to be able to spend a day with them,” explained Garcia. “A word of advice, nothing makes a corndog taste better than eating it with your students while laughing and smiling!”

“Mr. Garcia fit right in as a Trailblazer!” said Marcus Funchess, Ed.D, the full-time Principal at Dr. Henry Elementary, as he referenced the school’s mascot. “As soon as he stepped foot onto our campus, his positive energy and bright smile captivated our scholars.”

Mr. Garcia began his day talking with the school’s student council about their role, exchanged stories with the young scholars, and visited various classrooms throughout the day. “Our scholars explained what they were learning, talked to him about our school, and even entertained his teachable moments,” continued Dr. Funchess. “By the end of Mr. Garcia’s visit, both he and our scholars were asking for the date of his return. Our doors will always be open to him.”

SBSEFCU adopted Dr. Henry Elementary through SBCUSD’s Adopt-A-School program before the school began its inaugural year in the fall of 2013. To adopt a school contact the SBCUSD Communications Office at (909) 381-1250 to learn more about the program or visit www.sbcusd.com.
