1. Can I trade on stock market holidays, bank holidays, and stock market half-days? ⌄
Cryptocurrency is a 24/7/365 market and can generally be traded at any time.
Stocks & ETFs typically follow U.S. market hours and are generally closed on major U.S. market holidays (and may have early-closure days).
Bank holidays may affect settlement times and cash transfer timing even when markets are open.
2. Can I transfer outside assets into the investment portal? ⌄
For securities: Yes. Please contact InvestiFi Securities LLC to receive an Account Transfer Form. Please have ready your most recent account statement for the assets you wish to transfer.
For cryptocurrency: No. For a variety of security and regulatory reasons, you are not able to send cryptocurrency to a wallet outside of the financial institution or receive cryptocurrency from a wallet outside of the financial institution.
3. Are my investments taxable? ⌄
Your financial institution does not provide tax advice. For specific questions, you should consult a tax professional.
You can find your consolidated transaction history in the documents section of the investment portal which can be used as a record of gains and losses received from trades.
4. How much does it cost to use this? ⌄
The cost to trade securities is free.
Cryptocurrency transactions are charged a small fee according to the following Fee Schedule:
- $0.99 minimum
- $0 – $1,000 at 2.99%
- $1,000.01 – $5,000 at 1.75%
5. Where are my investments stored? ⌄
The cash and securities are held in your brokerage account at a qualified custodian, RQD* Clearing LLC.
Cryptocurrency purchased through the digital asset service offering is held with SAFE Trust Company (sFox).
6. Can anyone trade securities or purchase cryptocurrency? ⌄
Only members over the age of 18 and in good standing with the financial institution can buy/sell/hold securities or cryptocurrency. Commercial accounts may not be used.
7. Is my financial institution a registered broker/dealer? ⌄
No. Your financial institution is not a broker-dealer, does not offer securities or other investments, and the investments and securities are not insured by FDIC or NCUA.
However, your financial institution has partnered with InvestiFi Securities LLC as your registered broker dealer.
8. Can I buy a fractional share of a stock or coin? ⌄
Yes. The minimum purchase for securities is $1.00. The minimum cryptocurrency purchase is $6.00.
9. Why did I receive a deposit even though I didn’t sell an asset? ⌄
Depending on the assets you hold, you may receive dividends or cash disbursement due to a corporate action, or a return of excess funds from a purchase.
10. I received an email/phone call — how can I tell if it’s legitimate? ⌄
Members may receive emails or calls from InvestiFi, AdvisiFi, RQD Clearing, or SAFE/sFox.
If you have questions about legitimacy, contact Thinkwise Credit Union and we’ll connect you to the appropriate contact.
11. What happens if I close my credit union account? ⌄
You may need to liquidate positions or transfer whole shares to another broker through ACATS before closing your account. Speak with an InvestiFi representative before closing to review your options.
12. What are stablecoins, and how do they relate to crypto vs. stocks? ⌄
Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to track a stable asset (often the U.S. dollar), such as USDC or USDT. Availability may vary by program configuration.
Crypto (including stablecoins) generally trades 24/7/365 and carries risk (including issuer, liquidity, regulatory, and market risks).
Stocks and ETFs trade during market hours on trading days and represent ownership interests in companies or baskets of assets.
