Answers to common questions about Digital Investing access and trading.
1. Can I trade on stock market holidays, bank holidays, and stock market half-days? ⌄
Cryptocurrency is a 24/7/365 market and can generally be traded at any time.
Stocks & ETFs typically follow U.S. market hours and are generally closed on major U.S. market holidays (and may have early-closure days).
Bank holidays may affect settlement times and cash transfer timing even when markets are open.
2. Can I transfer outside assets into the investing portal? ⌄
For securities: Yes. Contact InvestiFi Securities LLC to request an Account Transfer Form. Have your most recent statement available for the assets you wish to transfer.
For cryptocurrency: No. For security and regulatory reasons, the program does not support sending cryptocurrency to or receiving cryptocurrency from external wallets.
3. Are my investments taxable? ⌄
Thinkwise Credit Union does not provide tax advice. For specific questions, consult a tax professional.
You can find your consolidated transaction history in the documents section of the portal, which can be used as a record of gains and losses.
4. How much does it cost to use this? ⌄
The cost to trade securities is free.
Cryptocurrency transactions are charged a small fee according to the following Fee Schedule:
- $0.99 minimum
- $0 – $1,000 at 2.99%
- $1,000.01 – $5,000 at 1.75%
5. Where are my investments stored? ⌄
Cash and securities are held in your brokerage account with a qualified custodian, RQD* Clearing LLC.
Cryptocurrency is held in a digital wallet maintained by SAFE Trust Company.
6. Who can use Digital Investing? ⌄
Only eligible members over the age of 18 and in good standing with Thinkwise Credit Union can buy/sell/hold securities or cryptocurrency. Individual membership designation types only. Business accounts are not eligible at this time.
7. Is Thinkwise Credit Union a registered broker-dealer or investment adviser? ⌄
No. Thinkwise Credit Union is not a broker-dealer, does not provide brokerage services, and does not provide investment advisory services.
Brokerage services are provided by InvestiFi Securities LLC and RQD* Clearing LLC. Advisory services are provided by AdvisiFi, LLC.
Investments are not insured by FDIC or NCUA and may lose value.
8. Can I buy fractional shares of a stock or coin? ⌄
Yes. The minimum purchase for securities is $1.00. The minimum cryptocurrency purchase is $6.00.
9. Why did I receive a deposit even though I didn’t sell an asset? ⌄
Depending on the assets you hold, you may receive dividends or cash disbursements due to corporate actions, or a return of excess funds from a purchase.
10. I received an email or phone call — how can I tell if it’s legitimate? ⌄
Members may receive emails or calls from InvestiFi Securities, AdvisiFi, RQD Clearing, SAFE Trust, or their service providers.

11. What happens to my portfolio if I close my Thinkwise account? ⌄
You may need to liquidate positions or transfer whole shares to another broker through ACATS before closing your Thinkwise account. Speak with an InvestiFi Securities representative before closing to review options and timing.
12. What are stablecoins, and how do they relate to crypto vs. stocks? ⌄
Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to track a stable asset (often the U.S. dollar), such as USDC or USDT. Availability may vary.
Crypto (including stablecoins) generally trades 24/7/365 and can carry significant risk (including issuer, liquidity, regulatory, and market risks).
Stocks and ETFs trade during market hours on trading days and represent ownership interests in companies or baskets of assets.
